Ingredients

  • a knob fresh ginger (minced, 2tsp)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1-2 oranges (you need the zest and ½ cup of juice)
  • ½ cup soy sauce (or tamari or coconut aminos)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup sesame oil
  • ¼-⅓ cup honey (to taste)
  • ¼-1 tsp chili flakes (to taste)
  • 4 chicken breasts (cut into chunks)
  • sea salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 large head broccoli (cut into florets)

Instructions

  • Heat up some avocado oil in a deep skillet. Add ginger and garlic. When fragrant, add orange juice, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, honey and chili flakes.
  • When boiling, turn the heat to low. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened.
  • Take it off the heat and add the orange zest. Taste the sauce and adjust the flavor by adding salt, pepper, more orange juice or soy sauce. Set the sauce aside for now (if the chicken and broccoli are not ready yet).
  • While the sauce is reducing, season the chicken with salt and pepper. In a large skillet heated up some avocado oil, add the seasoned chicken for 5-8 minutes until cooked through, but still juicy.
  • In another pot parboil the broccoli florets for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add both the broccoli and the chicken to the thickened sauce and stir to combine.
  • Divide it over 4 plates, serve it with (brown) rice and garnish the chicken and broccoli with sesame seeds.
